This is beautiful and bittersweet. The image of you crunching on a raw potato slice, won’t leave me soon!

Food is one of my connections to my mom as well. Thanks for reminding me of the many ways love shows up.

My mom made the best tomato sandwiches, and every time I eat one, I think it would be just a little better if she had spread her love on it.... food is such a part of being cared for. Sweet entry. Thanks for writing.

I would like to know her exact preparation, including the variety of 🍅 and type of 🍞 ??

Aww. She used white bread, what we had in the 60s, and any home grown tomato. She spread Mayo to the edges of the bread, which I think was key to make sure every inch of the bread was covered and never dry. Then she salted and peppered it. She didn’t do bacon or lettuce. It was pure tomato.

Sweet of you to ask. She also made us onion and green pepper sandwiches the same way. They were the best. Sliced paper thin and layered. ❤️

Thank you for sharing this safe, warm place, Liz’s kitchen, with us. It was clearly surrounded with love.

I love your mom’s taste in TV shows juxtaposed to her, dare I say cosmopolitan, flare in the kitchen. Reminds me of myself. Love the image of her giving you little tastes as she cooked. I got potato cubes too, but never any sweets!
