"Isn't it spectacular?" is one of the most enlightened and inspiring final utterances I've ever heard. I want to live life like that, to be in an ongoing state of wonder, to be in love with the world even on the world's (and my) worst days. It sounds like Pop had that skill down like a pro ballroom dancer has the steps to the tango down. May he keep dancing around your wrist, your pulse, your life. Thank you for this light-shining piece!

Thank you for reading and commenting. Pop was on fire with life until the very end. The bracelet is him holding my hand still and pushing me to keep stepping...in my work, writing, parenting, and this magnificent mess we call life!

Such a beautiful story. I've always said that it takes one strong person to believe in you to save you from the family system damage and bullying and all the bad things that happen. You had that one strong person in your life and that keepsake is precious. We never know who will be someone's Fairy Godmother. Tears are running down my cheeks. Thank you for sharing.

This is so beautiful, I wanted to cry! Angels come in different forms, your Pop was one. Signed up for your newsletter. He must be sooo proud of you!

Aw, thank you so much. Yes, if guardian angels exist, Pop was mine though he'd cringe at the sentiment! 😉 But we all get to make meaning in our own way. Thank you for reading and sharing this!

lol Yeah I got that undertone in your essay too. The older gen did cringe when it came to emotionally expressing ourselves so openly :) and of course, its harder for self-proclaimed atheists :) BTW, Im a Muslim by faith. Yet, some of the nicest people Ive met are atheists.

Such a joy to hear about you grandfather, Shoshana. What a beautiful, and cherished gift he gave, the bracelet and his support to rise higher and achieve an important goal. You seem to have gleaned wisdom from his love...
